Este clasificat \u00een patru serotipuri numerotate de la 1 la 4 (HPIV-1, HPIV-2, HPIV-3 \u0219i HPIV-4). Serotipul 4 poate fi subdivizat \u00een HPIV-4A \u0219i HPIV-4B<sup>1<\/sup>. Virusul parainfluenza uman este o cauz\u0103 important\u0103 a bolilor respiratorii la copii \u0219i adul\u021bi, cu o gam\u0103 larg\u0103 de manifest\u0103ri clinice, inclusiv r\u0103celi, crup\u0103, bron\u0219iolit\u0103 \u0219i pneumonie<sup>2<\/sup>. Imunitatea rezultat\u0103 din boal\u0103, \u00een copil\u0103rie, este par\u021bial\u0103, iar reinfec\u021bia are loc pe tot parcursul vie\u021bii adulte, de\u0219i simptomele sunt de obicei u\u0219oare \u0219i autolimitate.<\/p>\n<p>Cu toate acestea, la adul\u021bii imunocompromi\u0219i sau v\u00e2rstnici, infec\u021bia poate evolua c\u0103tre tractul respirator inferior \u0219i poate provoca pneumonie sever\u0103 \u0219i care pune via\u021ba \u00een pericol<sup>3<\/sup>. Virusul parainfluenza poate provoca at\u00e2t infec\u021bii ale tractului respirator superior, c\u00e2t \u0219i infec\u021bii ale tractului respirator inferior la copii cu v\u00e2rsta sub 5 ani, adul\u021bi, adul\u021bi imunocompromi\u0219i \u0219i v\u00e2rstnici.
