Benzina, vopselele, decapan\u021bii, lipiciurile, unele produse de cur\u0103\u021bare de uz casnic \u0219i fumul de tutun pot fi sursele de toluen din aer<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Toluenul este metabolizat \u00een principal la acid benzoic, care se conjug\u0103 cu glicina, pentru a produce acid hipuric, excretat \u00een urin\u0103. Acidul hipuric este cel mai utilizat indicator \u00een biomonitorizarea lucr\u0103torilor expu\u0219i la toluen, deoarece prezint\u0103 o corela\u021bie bun\u0103 cu nivelul de expunere la toluen, \u00een ciuda lipsei de specificitate sau expunerea profesional\u0103. Cele mai importante surse de acid hipuric sunt reprezentate de contaminarea mediului cu toluen \u0219i de unele alimentele, cum ar fi fructele (prune \u0219i piersici), boabele de cafea verde \u0219i al\u021bi eliberatori de acid benzoic<sup>3-6<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Toluenul, prin reac\u021bia cu glicina, este transformat \u00een acid hipuric. Cantit\u0103\u021bi mici de acid hipuric sunt produse \u0219i ca urmare a expunerii la stiren. Intoxica\u021bia cu toluen afecteaz\u0103 sistemul nervos central, iar prezenta unor concentra\u021bii mai mari, perturba func\u021bii cerebrale complexe. Intoxica\u021bia cronic\u0103 produce fatigabilitate \u0219i ataxie, iar uneori manifest\u0103ri cerebrale severe, cu afectarea vederii, lipsa coordonarii etc. \u00cen ultimii ani, concentra\u021bia de toluen \u00een aer \u00een mediul ocupa\u021bional este \u00een sc\u0103dere, \u00een principal datorit\u0103 condi\u021biilor mai bune de igien\u0103, iar nivelurile bioindicatorilor se apropie de valorile sigure pentru s\u0103n\u0103tatea uman\u0103.<\/p>\n<p>Astfel, pentru interpretarea corect\u0103 a rezultatelor biomonitoriz\u0103rii, este necesar\u0103 stabilirea valorilor de referin\u021b\u0103 la o popula\u021bie non-expus\u0103 profesional.
